Task
Pharmacy had reached capacity and growth had slowed, and in some months, growth was negative.
Action
Centralised a third of the pharmacy business into a remote location to free up the capacity within the pharmacy.
Result
The pharmacy growth, 3 months after centralisation, was over 6% year on year. Waiting times decreased from over 15 minutes to under 8 and the pharmacy team were able to begin MURs and increased from 0 to 5 per week. There was also a reduction in near misses and adverse events.

Complete review of all procedures in the pharmacy usning the 5 GPhC principles highlighted areas that required improvement. A report was produced which formed the backbone of the action plan.
The owner received an objective view and enabled him to work with his pharmacy team to make the necessay changes. They now eagerly await their inspection.
Requirement to bring on-board 41 pharmacies to use a centralised semi-automated CDS dispensing system.
Reviewed the workload of all the pharmacies to short list a number of potential candidates. Worked with the senior management team to understand the pharmacies that would deliver above average growth or where there was a second pharmacist employed only to check the trays. Delivered all the training and support to ensure each 'go live' went smoothly and over 3 months all pharmacies were brought on board.
Overall the pharmacies grew 1.5% faster than the rest of the business. The cost to produce each item was reduced by 40p, with a significant reduction in dispensing errors.
